Cindy Tersme threw herself amid the rubble of Ecole St. Gerard, screaming in anguish as she searched for her 14-year-old brother Jean Gaelle Dersmorne. On left is his cousin, Agron, 25, who greeted and hugged him. He and his brother and cousin (far left, Arjanit, 17) returned to their village and received a joyous welcome from their family. They had an outdoor meal with copious amounts of food and toasts to their happy return. Neighbors and friends rushed to the home when they heard the news. Ilir is not KLA, just wearing the KLA scarf of a friend. While they were sleeping in their home six weeks ago, Serbian police came about 8 a.m. and took the young men off to prison. They beat them and made them eat cigarettes. Their family stayed in Kosovo, but hid in the fields and mountains during the conflict. The young men were returned with a large group of prisoners by bus to the nearby city of Pec, which was the scene of much destruction. Kosovo June 26, 1999</image:caption>

The relatives who just arrived had to stay outside the camp until shelter was available. The next day members of the family had tents inside. The fence was the scene of many reunions. <image:caption>TRAPPED - Omayra Sanchez looks up from her watery grave. The 13-year-old girl was trapped in the mudslide which covered her town of Armero, Columbia, killing more than 25,000 people. A concrete slab pinned her leg in water that submerged her family home. Although rescuers tried to free her, they were unsuccessful. After 59 hours she died, becoming a sad symbol of the devastating tragedy. Armero Columbia 1985.</image:caption>

A few days ago they left Ruska Lozova, a town liberated from Russian forces. Vitaly Ignatov, 52 helped evacuate them and puts up a Ukrainian flag in the bunker. They lived for two months during the occupation, but on the 26th heavy fighting began at night and they decided to leave in the morning. On the same day a shell hit their house and they don’t know if their apartment survived. Lyubov questioned, “In the news they say that Putin is sick, but when will he die?”</image:caption>

His body was exhumed from a makeshift grave weeks ago and they had hoped to give him a proper funeral but had to resume the search at morgues for his remains when they realized neither of the decomposing corpses were their loved one. <image:caption>‘Why are we alive and my son is dead?’ wept Nadia Yakivna, 80 years old as she views her home reduced to rubble in Irpin, Ukraine on May 7, 2022. She and her daughter, Svetlana Magyrovks, 58 returned the day after her son’s funeral to salvage items from the home and clean up. The town was liberated from Russian forces and slowly people are returning to rebuild. They had evacuated to Mukachevo and returned after two months searching for the body of Alexander Stukalo, only finding him in a Kyiv morgue with assistance from a telegram app channel. In early March they hid in their basement but were very frightened after the first bombing at an apartment building across the street and moved to a larger bunker. During the next air raid when the planes flew very low directly overhead, they ran in their nightclothes to that basement, but Alexander stayed in the house where he died. His body was eventually found in the wreckage at the end of April. Nadia loved flowers so very much, and she now looks at tulips blooming amid the debris in her once pristine garden. Svetlana gave her mother cleaning tasks to help focus on something other than the constant grief and tears. It’s the only thing that calms her, but she still quietly weeps sitting at the scrubbed kitchen table for lunch of vegetables preserved in a jar they found in the ruins.  ‘I’ll never forget the sound of the bombing,’ said Svetlana as she helped her mom navigate the debris on their walkway to rest for the night at a nearby apartment. They will again return tomorrow to pick up the pieces of shattered lives.</image:caption>

They were at a casualty collection point to rescue wounded. “He came here to help, said Dave Eubank from FBR. “People are still dying, we’re going to stand with them” as the group prepared to return to the front line shortly after the loss of one of their own. <image:caption>Iraqi soldier Dred Subhi tenderly carried an ISIS orphan down a destroyed street from the front line In West Mosul, Iraq on July 17, 2017. She was found by Iraqi Army soldiers when they saw her walking naked in the rubble. She was believed to be a foreigner, her parents ISIS fighters killed in the battle or by suicide bomb, it was difficult for medics to determine exactly. She was given emergency care at a Trauma Stabilization Point with Iraqi Army medics nearby in the Old City. The soldiers said they saw other children but couldn't reach them as it was too dangerous with ISIS fighters nearby. The battle continued in a small part of West Mosul even though it was declared liberated a week ago. Dozens of mostly women and children squeezed through fence on the beach or climbed over wall at low point passing children over. All were detained after entering the U.S. Border patrol agents at one point allowed only women and kids to climb over, then falsely blamed media for making it happen. An agent on the beach watched as a woman and child squeezed through breach in fence, saying "You're kidding me, right? You've got to be kidding me," as she crawled through in front of him. She came with her companion Luis Miguel, 32 from Honduras where they made the difficult 3 month journey. He said he fled in fear and cries a lot with anxiety about his past. He said his ex-wife started dating a gang member and the gang torched his home killing his 2 children inside. He fled to mountains seeking safety where he met Ingrid and they had another child. When they first arrived they said they were told by border guards they would not get in until their child was an adult, possibly as a deterrent then went to stay with a cousin in Mexico for a few days but had kidnap threats and returned to bridge July 1. They were eventually allowed in late on July 2 to be processed for credible fear. If not for a small humanitarian group Asociacion Civil Ayudandoles a Triunfar a.c. run by Glady Canas from Mexico they would have not had blankets to sleep on, food, water, etc.</image:caption>
